World Water Day

March 20, 2014 - Benjamin Dowson

As you may or may not know, today is World Water Day!

Declared by the United Nations in 1993, World Water Day is a day where nations come together to promote issues surrounding global water resources. Every year, World Water Day has a theme that determines the initiatives and messages that the United Nations sends out. This year, the theme of World Water Day is that of Water Cooperation.

Now, as plumbers we are very familiar with Water! We here at Action Auger feel that we all share a responsibility to care for earth’s most precious resource. Today we should all dedicate ourselves to finding ways to limit our water usage so that we can promote good water saving habits. This could include limiting tap use, having shorter showers, avoid the use of water-intensive machines such as dishwashers or laundry machines.

How Can You Make A Difference?

Limiting water usage for one day a year may not have much impact on its own, but if we can start to develop dialogue and habits that promote good water usage then we are all able to learn and benefit from the experience.

One way that the City of Calgary is doing their part to help conserve water is with their Residential Toilet Replacement Program. How this works is that when you replace your current toilet for a high efficiency WaterSense labeled one, you may be eligible to get $50 back. When combined with the amount of money you will be saving in yearly water charges, this adds up!

We are pleased to say that Action Auger does carry and install WaterSense certified toilets. So call us today to find out how we can help you do your part to save water and cut your water costs at the same time.
