How to Pick A Toilet Brand
August 17, 2014 - Benjamin Dowson
Toilets are, in some respects, like cars. You have your high end cars like your Ferraris and Lamborghinis, you have your economy cars like your Civics or Corollas, and every now and then you have your obscure brands that no one has ever heard of. There are several big brand names when it comes to toilets, each with their pros and cons, and it is often beneficial to go with a brand name company.
Some of the big name toilets manufacturers in the industry that immediately come to mind are American Standard, Crane, Toto, and Briggs. These are the ones that Action Auger installs most frequently, and they are all solid toilet brands.
Each one of these companies is reputable and highly regarded in the industry. To be perfectly honest, there isn’t a huge difference between toilets from one company to the next. The decision to go with one brand of toilet over another is mostly a question of brand preference. However, each brand has a good, better, and best toilet in their product lineup.
Another thing to keep in mind is that like with most things, when dealing with toilets you get what you pay for. On the outside they all look the same: it is a place that you go sit on or stand in front of to deposit waste, but what will happen is that the good manufactures (such as those listed above) have designed and developed toilets that push waste out faster, easier, and more efficiently.
For example, one of the things that you can’t see that these brands also optimize for the quality of your toilet is the bend of the traps on the inside of toilets are optimally positioned to allow waste to flow out easier. Also, the inside of their toilet has a smooth finish just like the outside, also allowing waste to slide through easier. You find that a lot of cheaper no-name toilets, if you were to break them open and have a look on the inside, are rough and waste catches on easier.
So, here we have seen that while it is important that you choose a reputable toilet brand, it does not make a huge difference as they each have similar characteristics (unless you are looking for a luxury toilet like this one!). If you go with a reputable brand as opposed to a no-name brand for your next toilet purchase, you can rest assured that you will have made a good purchase.
